Great Interview..i am reading your book as we speak and i cant put it down i am very intrigued by this book and your story! U are an amazing man with faith and god on your side! good luck in all u do
Yes Caro, you are the only person who has made up this illusion of a nervous Eric Volz. It is a figment of your imagination, or schizophrenia. Hopefully, the former. Eric has been a champ in all of his interviews up to date. It's so easy to criticize from behind a computer screen, isn't it?
Excuse my mistake. I was under the impresion that we could discuss these topics as adults. Without having to insult anyone. I see now I was wrong in believing that. Go ahead and insult me if it makes you feel better. You can respond if you like, but you will not be getting an answer from me.
Great interview Eric. I am continually in awe of your courage! I loved your book and your story is a constant reminder of how precious our life can be! Keep up the great work! Thank you for sharing!
Adults discuss substantive issues, not whether someone appears nervous. I'm sorry that's all you took from the interview.
It's, to me, unbelievable that Eric can string two words together, much less write a book, much less conquer what is most people's greatest fear (public speaking) after everything he was subjected to by that awful awful "system" of scapegoating and torture in Nicaragua. I breathe more deeply each time I'm reminded he actually did survive and is living to tell his nightmare story. The fact he puts himself out there over and over is a testament to the deep courage he emulates for all of us.
EL QUE A HIERRO MATA A HIERRO MUERE ACUERDATE DE ESO HIJO DE PUTA
I hope no one dignifies the above comment with more of a response than I am giving here.
Doris Jimenez embodies Nicaragua and what happens to people and land, when it is exploited.
Eric – What I find to be highly disturbing, though clear and consistent throughout your entire story, is the lack of remorse you show for Doris Jimenez – A woman that was once a girlfriend of yours, found brutally raped, sodomized and murdered. How is it that all the focus and attention is on you and not of this innocent girl??
What speaks volumes is your lack of feeling or concern for the life of a human being that came to a sudden end. This is apparent in your words. You've tried to paint a picture about politics – what do you know about the political history of Nicaragua? It seems your ego and greed took over. You found a tropical paradise, ripe for the taking, in the second poorest country in the Americas. You are not the first and you will not be the last.
I have not read your book and never will. Your story is not the story of a hero. You are a self proclaimed hero, who speaks selfishly and lacks remorse. It is no wonder that the people of Nicaragua have been left to feel raped.
To live a life of selfishness is the equivalent of being ignorant. My advise to you is to let this life experience humble you vs capitalizing on it every chance you get.
To the family of Doris Jimenez – Your daughters legacy will live on. May she rest in peace in the earth of the Nicaraguan soil.
@Denise - What I find to be highly disturbing is how people today no longer know how to give one another the benefit of the doubt. (I am likely losing yours already.) What I find to be disturbing is how you feel justified to come here to pass judgment on Eric Volz without knowing him personally & without having read the book. You, an intelligent woman, are NOT thinking for yourself. You are allowing others to think for you, my friend, when you need to use your own wisdom & discernment when it comes to what little you do know of this case. Eric does not want to be a hero. Can you cite for me one instance in which he has claimed to be? Eric is a man who would give his own life to go back in time & prevent the murder of his friend. I have NEVER heard him come close to describing himself as a hero, but "Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) No, he did not die for her. YES, he WOULD have (and not just within the walls of La Modelo). Has he ever told me that? He does not have to say so. I know the man in my own way (which includes reading the book, a rather raw recounting of life before, during, & after Doris). I look into his eyes, listen to his voice, & watch his body language. I don't need him to come out & say that. I don't have Eric on a pedestal; I just call 'em like I see 'em...just like I did when I said you seem intelligent. (That's obvious to me.) You asked, "How is it that all the focus and attention is on you and not of this innocent girl??" How can you not see that this book is not about Eric? Yes, it tells the story through his eyes. Who else's eyes should he tell it through? He gets vilified either way. While I'm sure it was loads of fun to relive every recollection of that madness day after day as he skipped along merrily hashing out the details for the entire world, the point was to tell what happened to him in as much detail as possible & give as much information as he could about the events surrounding the death of Ms. Jimenez IN HOPES of drawing more attention to her case IN HOPES of bringing her true killer(s) to justice. Todo por ella, Denise. Todo por ella. You also wrote, "To live a life of selfishness is the equivalent of being ignorant. My advise to you is to let this life experience humble you vs capitalizing on it every chance you get." Eric's life is wrapped up in trying to 1) bring attention to Doris's murder in hopes of justice for her sake, 2) his experience serving as a cautionary tale to Americans traveling to other countries, & 3) drawing attention to the human rights atrocities in La Modelo & other prisons like it around the world. By your statement, ma'am, Eric is quite the wise man indeed.
